Pre and Post-Operation Support

Welcome to the third in this series of Post operation support using Homeopathic remedies.

A friend of mine has recently had a hip replacement and so I sent her some supportive remedies to aid her transition into surgery followed by remedies to aid her recovery after surgery. Often going into surgery can be a very anxious time even if the operation has been long awaited and expected. Often pre-op nerves are ignored by physicians and Homeopathy can play a part here in re-addressing this imbalance in emotions. For this pre-operation anxiety, I sent Aconitum. This is a great remedy for sudden onset of pre-op nerves when you are fearful about the operation and the outcome.

Pre-op remedy

Aconitum 30C taken regularly as needed - helped my friend with her anxiety.

Post-op remedies

Phosphorous 200c twice following the operation to help with the effects of the anesthetic, it was also useful for post surgical nausea.

Arnica 200c 4 times daily for the first few days reducing over the following 3-4 days. Helps with trauma and post-op shock. Also aids healing and bruising. 10 days after the operation the stitches were removed and it was remarked upon how quickly the wound was healing.

Carbo Veg 30C for constipation and wind, often experienced after surgery. Possibly due to inactivity during the convalescence period. Taken as needed.

Staphisagria 30C one a day for five days, useful after surgery where there are lacerated wounds and trauma to the part. Also for emotional support. The patient often has the feeling of violation and is restless about the long post operation recovery.

Tissue Salts - The tissue salt Combination B would be really helpful in aiding recovery during the convalescence period. It contains Calc Phos, Kali Phos and Ferr Phos. Four tablets to be taken 3 times daily for 3-4 weeks.
